My mistakes, my tears and my fears make me human...
I was inspired to start my blog, The Young Caregiver, and write Plan of Action: How to Save Your Own Life – A Caregiver’s Journal because I believe sharing my story will help others.
What inspired you to start your business? What motivates you to keep going?: I was inspired to start my blog, The Young Caregiver and write Plan of Action: How to Save Your Own Life – A Caregiver’s Journal because I believe sharing my story will help others. I want to encourage caregivers that if I can survive my parents becoming incapable of taking care of themselves in the same week, they can also survive their caregiver journey. The caregiver’s journal focuses on the caregiver because being a caregiver affects you emotionally, mentally, and physically so making yourself a priority and participating in self-care is very important.
My parents always encouraged me to do what I was passionate about whether it was playing the trombone, becoming a cheerleader, writing for the school newspaper, playing flag football, starting a community service club, joining a sorority, and countless other desires of my heart. Knowing that I only get one shot at life motivates me to go full throttle. I would rather fail trying than live wondering what if I tried.
How do you create the life you want?: I control the things that are in my control. Life is full of surprises that we don’t know are coming, some good and some bad so in between those moments you must live as if it’s your last day. At the age of 13, I had an eight-hour spinal surgery, while recovering my independence was taken from me. That experience was temporary, but it taught me not to take life for granted because in one second your life can change.
What makes you HUMAN?: My mistakes, my tears and my fears make me human.
What's three things you want us to know about self-love/wellness?: First, during your most selfless state of helping others, you must make your self-care a priority. If you aren’t ok, you can’t help others. Take breaks and refuel.
Second, what you say to yourself is just as important as what you put in your body. If you speak down on yourself, you will accept it from others. Manifest positivity into your life. Come up with an affirmation that will encourage you and repeat it to yourself as needed.
Lastly, no is a sufficient answer. You will drain yourself trying to be everything to everyone.
What's something we can incorporate today to LIVE LIFE WELL?:: Give yourself grace and know that one bad decision isn’t the end of your story. You can rewrite your life and reinvent yourself whenever you want.

Self care all the time is the mantra…
I was first inspired by entrepreneurs who were being authentic and running successful businesses. It offered me a pathway forward that I hadn't know before. As the energy grew, I realized that I had a strong desire to have a container for my creativity that also provided monetary abundance.
What inspired you to start your business? What motivates you to keep going?: I was first inspired by entrepreneurs who were being authentic and running successful businesses. It offered me a pathway forward that I hadn't know before. As the energy grew, I realized that I had a strong desire to have a container for my creativity that also provided monetary abundance. That felt like freedom and space to me, so I decided to pursue just that even with the mistakes along the way. My business was actually something totally different before I decided to pivot. I knew that creating spaces for women, specifically Black women, to practice creative self care was aligned with my purpose here. What keeps me going is the vision that I have that continues to manifest. 7 years ago, I wrote out what I wanted my ideal day to look like. Every year I reflect and highlight parts that have become a reality. On days when it gets tough, I read that ideal day and remind myself that what I am working towards is worthwhile because it is aligned with my desires.
How do you create the life you want?: I practice self care all of the time. By making self care a constant practice, I am more connected to myself. I am more curious about what I desire and what I don't desire. This act of noticing and paying attention allows me to stay in tune with what I need. When I know what I need, I can be generous to myself and give it to me. I used to think about creation in big gestures, but creation also happens in the small spaces of time and subtle shifts I make daily.
What makes you HUMAN?: Having days where I really move through uncomfortable emotions and just need to cry
What's three things you want us to know about self-love/wellness?: -You do not have to wait until you are exhausted to practice self care. Self care all the time is the mantra.
-Self care should be fun and include play. We get serious as adults, but we have to reconnect to our child like nature and explore
-Self care and wellness isn't just one thing. There are so many types of self care. Trust that you know what you really need and give it to yourself.
What's something we can incorporate today to LIVE LIFE WELL?:: Take breaks all throughout the day. It might be 5 minutes in between calls or 1 minute before you check emails. Take breaks so that you can breathe and pay attention to you.
