Art that celebrates you. Monique Cleveland is a Raleigh-based artist and full-time art teacher. She received her Bachelor's Degree of Art & Design from North Carolina State University in 2010. Her company, Sugah Acrylics, strives to highlight and celebrate the inner strength of women through art. Sugah Acrylics is the visual embodiment of the empowered woman, featuring alluring artwork with identifiable attitudes and personalities.
When did you begin painting?
I first began painting in high school for a fun means of expression. With plans to become a fashion designer when I attended college, I quickly found that I enjoyed creating positive images of black women through illustrations and paintings more. Soon, painting became a way for me share my art with others, so they too could have pieces of positive representation in their homes.
What does your company stand for?
Sugah Acrylics stands to represent the sweet and sensual side of women, with a goal to promote education, imagination, and sass, all of which are visible in the art. It is meant to inspire and empower women and young girls to thrive.
How do you gain inspiration for your art?
The versatility of the black woman helps me to gain inspiration. The challenge of trying to capture the beauty and strength of the black women is the motivation. Hair, fashion, popular culture, grace and the form of the black woman is remarkable. Creating art that captures the inner essence of these elements is a rewarding challenge.
What can we expect to see in the future?
Expect to see larger scale creations from Sugah Acrylics, social pieces that capture or respond to the events of today and, the fun styles and legends of the 90s culture
What makes you HUMAN?
Mistakes make me human. I am humbled to know that my success comes from hard work, patience, persistence, and God. Art is a reflection of life, and being human allows me to connect and relate to other African Americans like myself as we share experiences, struggles, triumphs, and dreams.

Faux coffee, Your Newest Vegan Addiction
Nubian Hue Non Brew is the first Faux Coffee company in Atlanta, GA, offering a delectable alternative to coffee. With plant-based ingredients such as herbs and spices
Faux coffee is your newest vegan addiction! Nubian Hue Non Brew is the first Faux Coffee company in Atlanta, GA, offering a delectable alternative to coffee. With plant-based ingredients such as herbs and spices, it was created so that people could enjoy the taste of coffee without any adverse effects. It's a vegan dessert in a bottle! Owner Lajoyce Waajid, shares a bit about herself and the advantages of drinking faux coffee.
Tell us a bit about yourself.
Greetings beautiful Naturalistas! I am the proud mommy of 3, I am a certified colon therapist, wife, sister and friend. I am natural, of course, and have been since I was 21 years old. At 43, I am working on my bachelors in marketing and business intelligence. My daughter De'jai Alandra Mitchell is my inspiration for returning to school, as she is in her senior year at Spelman College, she makes me very proud. I am a previous salon owner and made a little history by opening the first full service natural hair salon in Henry county, however, the salon is now closed as I wanted to pursue my new invention Nubian Hue Non Brew INC. I love to sing, dance, crack jokes and enjoy life; on the flip side I love quiet time: reading, yoga, reflecting and just being still. I am a social introvert. I love to incorporate all that I have learned into all that I give to people; it is in me to give my very best.
Does the Faux Coffee Beverage provide the same stimulation regular coffee is believed to provide? If not, what are some of the advantages?
Our Faux Coffee does not provide any of the stimulating factors that coffee does as a matter of fact your results from drinking our faux coffee are so much better...it will give you energy as it was created with my expertise in colon therapy in mind. The Faux coffee is plant based and by using a culmination of herbs and spices, we are merely tricking the brain into believing you’re getting your coffee (which is bad for you and highly addictive), however, there are no adverse effects with Faux Coffee. In fact, it will do the opposite of what coffee does: eliminate toxins from your colon, kidney and spleen, thus giving you natural energy. Chile, don't worry these vegan desserts in a bottle taste sooooooo good! You’ll forget they’re good for you!
What does your company stand for?
All things natural and all things healthy with uncompromising taste.
What inspired you to create your business?
I was inspired to create the business out of need and necessity. I was addicted to coffee/caffeine and through proper research and observation, I discovered others were as well. I want to heal the world, per the American Psychiatric Association, over 90 of this great nation is addicted to coffee, that’s a scary fact--so my journey began
What makes you HUMAN?: I gave birth 3 times naturally and my ability to nurture.

WHY YOU NEED THIS ESCAPE PLAN
Meet Hollis: Embrace the journey of self-discovery, healing and love through exclusive retreats tailored to meet the needs of those involved.
By Ade, Writer & Owner of GabeJadeAccessories.com
Need to recharge? Holistree Retreats is an individualized, all-inclusive escape that includes meditation, coaching and much more! After moving to the west side of Puerto Rico, founder Hollis Gray, discovered herself engaging in some much needed healing while basking in blissful 80 degree weather. It was then that she realized her “healing privilege” and “decided that everyone should have the opportunity should they choose to heal.” Gray encourages women to embrace the journey of self-discovery, healing and love through exclusive retreats tailored to meet the needs of those involved.
Meet Hollis Gray owner of Holistree in Washington, DC and Luquillo, PR!
What inspired you to start your business and why?
I started Holistree because of my own healing journey and a moment of realization. I left the DMV area a little over two years ago with two suitcases and one box. I moved to Puerto Rico with no real plan and no real reason except I needed to get away. It wasn't until 6 weeks into my island escape that I realized my privilege in being able to pack up and leave, in mustering up faith in confidence. I literally had the idea as I laid in my hammock in 80 degree weather. I wanted to create a safe space for women much like the one I had; a space for women to come un-done, to come together, to feel inspired. I call it your "ah-ha" moment. Thus Holistree was created. It began as just a retreat getaway business but quickly grew into something much more. We now include Workshops, Conferences, Events, Support and so much more calling it "Women Empower". Every time a woman writes us or sends a message telling us how much her experience in one of our offerings helped shift her, I know Holistree is living its purpose.
What does your company stand for?
We stand for Empowerment, Support, Sisterhood, Community/Tribe.
How do you create the life you want?
I set the intention to always check in with myself. Being honest with myself first and foremost allows me to create the life I want (and I am certainly living it).
Where do you find inspiration?
My inspiration comes from my own tribe. My heart-centered family. Watching them all grow and stay dedicated to their own self-care really is inspiring. On the days I feel like I'm depleted, it's usually one of my sisters that reminds me of my power. I really am quite fortunate to have the bond with my tribe. They are absolutely amazing, magnificent women.
How has your business made you a better person?
My business has pushed and stretch me in ways that makes me stay in a space of authenticity. I can't serve any of my clients if my own self-care isn't my top priority. I have to practice what I teach, and that has definitely made me a better person. I didn't always put myself and spirit first. I'm wiser today because of it.
What makes you HUMAN?
Great Question! I think my ability to connect with others. I see people in such a magical way; I believe that's why what we do at Holistree resonates with so many. My connection and the ability to create a safe space unique to each individual makes me human.

3 THINGS TO HELP YOU JOURNAL LIKE A BOSS
3 THINGS TO HELP YOU JOURNAL LIKE THE BOSS THAT YOU ARE.
Recently we’ve been keeping tabs on everything. Whether it’s the random new snack we tried or that new machine we tried at the gym, the Planner 360 has made it easier to keep track of our daily. Not only does the Journal 360 comes in a variety of styles, but the accessories are what seal the deal for us:
1. the stencils: Don’t worry about drawing the perfect heart around the day you created that brand new dish, this stencil set allows you to create the perfect shapes for any day of the week.
2. the stickers: Who would’ve thought we’d see the day Starbucks has its own sticker! We have no shame. Some days we’ll post multiple stickers just because we can and on others we keep it classy. The stickers make those weekly non-negotiables a little more fun and tolerable if you ask us.
3. the fine pens: we love the pens because they’re thin tip and easy to use. We use them to squeeze between our sticker piles or to write in those things we may have forgotten. They are a life-saver.
Planner 360s can be found on Amazon.com. They have both spiritual and affirmation based journals! We purchased all supplies on Amazon as well and linked an affiliate code for sticker purchases below!
THE SOLD OUT SECRET TO GET YOU BACK ON TRACK
THE SOLD OUT SECRET TO GET YOU BACK ON TRACK
The sold out syndrome is real and the fact is most people are obsessed with it. But what if you don’t sale out of your first real event? 😅 Is it an indicator that you should pause or does it mean to keep pressing forward? We wanna help U out.
Here’s 4 things to getting back on track when your planning is a little sketchy:
1. Make your event more personal. Create an actual campaign around the event that gives facts and lets people know who’s running things behind the scenes.
2. Make things limited with a strict deadline. Have a ticket sales cut off time. Make sure guests know when things are due. Call-To-Actions are a good way to get what you need ahead of time so you can plan accordingly.
3. Build the anticipation for your event. Countdowns are a good way to do this. Also, when your event is all said and done, have previews ready for the next year of your event.
4. Partner with media companies or brands that can help promote. It wouldn’t even hurt to give away a few tickets to their readers to connect with a variation of audiences you may not know about.
4. And if it doesn’t go the way you planned. Adjust and really...just keep going. Consistency is key.
